Live prices respond to game state
Pregame markets summarize information available before tipoff. Live markets add the current score, remaining time, possession context and events that occur during play. Because these inputs change quickly, an in-play price can move several times within a short sequence.
Latency can change what the reader sees
A screen, data feed and market source may not update at exactly the same moment. The visible score or clock can therefore be ahead of or behind the listed price. Complete timestamps and a clear unavailable state are more trustworthy than a row that looks live but does not disclose freshness.
Do not mix pregame and live observations
A pregame spread and a third-quarter spread describe different questions. Keep them in separate tables or label them explicitly. Comparing them as if they were the same market creates a false line-movement story.

Common questions
Why can live NBA odds pause?
A source may suspend a market during reviews, injuries, timeouts or other uncertain moments. A paused or unavailable label is more accurate than displaying an old price as active.
Can live odds be compared with pregame odds?
They can be studied as different observations, but they should not be treated as the same market because the live price includes the game state and remaining time.
